Holy Grail.

The Holy Grail of side saddle books arrived today. Mr Phillpot suggested I get it as it is the "Bible" for SS. First published in 1938 and interestingly the lady who wrote it, Mrs Houblon, lived not far from where I grew up. It is she on the cover.

" Let us get deeply into our consciousness the idea that riding is an art of movement as well as one of horse psychology. There should be no involuntary fixity or stiffness anywhere, either in our bodies or in our minds. Our horse is a living being and, though in a sense we control his movements, yet the movements are his. Every horse gives us a different "feel", and it is this "feel", this movement, with which we want to be in harmony.

A belated pic of my "new" vintage Flying Dutchlady.......
